Motorola officially announced the BACKFLIP with MOTOBLUR today, an Android 1.5-powered smartphone that has a unique industrial design. Unlike clamshell phones or others that have a sliding keyboard, the BACKFLIP's keyboard literally flips out from the back of the device.
The BACKFLIP features a 3.1-inch 480 x 320 touchscreen display, a 5 megapixel camera, and common smartphone amenities like 802.11b/g WiFi, and GPS. It also has a 1400 mAh battery, which Motorola claims is good for up to 6 hours of talk time.
While Motorola hasn't announced carrier partners yet, it says that the phone will be available in the U.S., Latin America, Europe, and Asia in the first quarter of 2010. The U.S. version supports WCDMA 850/1900/2100MHz bands, and GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHz bands, which means it is compatible with AT&T's 3G network. Considering that the BACKFLIP was shown at AT&T's Developer Conference today, it seems nearly a sure thing.
